If you live in Charleston and have recently driven by the Cigar Factory, you may have noticed the front of the building looks different. In the 1960’s, a stucco addition was added to the left of the main entrance to hold the air handlers, and another stucco addition was built in the 1980’s to the right of the main entrance to add elevators and stairways.
In restoring the building to reflect the original design, construction crews have removed both of these stucco additions.
Below are several photos documenting the steps to remove the additions. The final photo shows the building with stucco additions removed on both sides of the main entrance. The remaining stucco on the far right side is being used as a chute for construction materials.
