Two Charleston Schools Make “Best Colleges” Lists

The Citadel and College of Charleston have been ranked in US News & World Report’s and Forbes Magazine’s best colleges issues.

US News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges”

Two Charleston colleges are featured in the 2010 US News & World Report’sAmerica’s Best Colleges.” The Citadel and College of Charleston ranked in the “Best Master’s Universities in the South” category. The issue is available on newsstands now.

The Citadel ranked #5 and College of Charleston ranked #10 for Best Master’s Universities in the South.

Other SC schools featured on the list include:

  • Clemson University ranked #22 in the “National Public Institutions” category
  • University of SC ranked #110 in the “National Public Institutions” category and #55 in the “Public Universities” category
  • The undergraduate international business program at USC ranked #1 for the 13th consecutive year

Fourteen colleges and universities in South Carolina and two Charleston colleges made this year’s list of “America’s Best Colleges” compiled by Forbes Magazine and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity.

Out of 600 colleges and universities, two Charleston schools made the list with The Citadel ranking #268 and College of Charleston ranking #347.

Other South Carolina schools included on the list include: Wofford College #71, Converse College #147, North Greenville University #154, Furman University #170, Presbyterian College #227, Claflin University #233, Erskine College #245, Bob Jones University #279, Clemson University #428 University of South Carolina Columbia #431, South Carolina State University #470 and Coastal Carolina University #600.

The top 10 overall ‘Best Colleges’ by rank include:

  1. United States Military Academy NY
  2. Princeton University NJ
  3. California Institute of Technology CA
  4. Williams College MA
  5. Harvard University MA
  6. Wellesley College MA
  7. United States Air Force Academy CO
  8. Amherst College MA
  9. Yale University CT
  10. Stanford University CA

According to Forbes, the CCAP ranked 600 undergraduate institutions based on the quality of the education they provide, the experience of the students and how much they achieve. Rankings took into account student evaluations of courses and teachers on RateMyProfessors.com, post-graduate success, average salaries of graduates on Payscale.com, estimated student debt after 4 years, graduation rates and number of students/faculty that won national awards. For the complete methodology, click here.
